Zenen 禅園 @ Herbis Plaza, Osaka

Zenen 禅園 is an upmarket izakaya restaurant located in Herbis Plaza (Umeda area) in Osaka; it is next to the basement lift lobby of The Ritz Carlton Hotel. I discovered this place purely by chance when my dad told me to take a look at the menu outside the restaurant for fun. The items did indeed look attractive, especially to a foreign visitor like myself. I figured, lets give it a try! Here are some pictures of the items we ordered.

Basashi 3 kinds, grilled chicken, Simmered Oysters, Fugu Sashimi
Wagyu Beef Tataki, Kani Croquette, Tako Sushi
Beef Maki sushi with Uni
Kaisen Don, Fried gizzard
As you can tell by the pictures, items such as Fugu, Uni with Beef maki sushi and high grade horse meat are usually not available in the average Izakaya restaurant. Of course there are exceptions and Izakaya restaurants in general are always adding new items to their menus. In fact, the beef maki sushi with Uni is becoming extremely popular in many yakiniku places now (or at least that’s what i see on instagram nowadays). Still, I like this restaurant a lot and I’ll be going there again this year to try the other items in the menu.
