Sushi Taro is a 1 Michelin starred sushi ya located right smack between Gion and Gofukumachi train stations. Priced reasonably, the chef serves quite mixture of small dishes and nigiri sushi. It is known that Hakata sushi is extremely different from Edomae sushi. Instead of merely using shoyu, Hakata sushi tends to deviate by using a mix of sauces, marinades and toppings, and just like the other Sushi Yas that I blogged about in Fukuoka, Sushi Taro did just that when I dined here in September 2017, although in a more discrete manner (like putting spices between the fish and rice so that it can't be seen).
Grilled Surf clam with salt and pepper |

I'm sure we all know what this is :) |
Cooked squid with sweet sauce |
River crab served with cashew nuts |
Fried ginko nuts |
Grilled conger eel |
Aged lean tuna |
Marinated sweet shrimp |
Gizzard Shad |
Squid with Olive oil |
Medium fatty tuna |
Sea Urchin roll |
Pacific Saury (Sanma) |
Very well cooked and tender octopus (you don't really have to chew on this) |
Black trout (this is one of best black trouts I have ever tasted) |
Boiled shrimp |
You can eat this Conger eel even if you don't have teeth |
Layered Egg |
Now if you noticed, he doesn't serve very premium items like Fatty Tuna for example; his items are all somewhat in the mid range but they're all really delicious I must say. Overall, paying about 11000 Yen for 20 items or so is a pretty good deal. I especially liked his squid with olive oil and his black trout. Definitely a must go for me if I'm ever in Fukuoka again.
