Roan Kikunoi Kiyamachi Branch is a micheln starred restaurant located very near Kawaramachi Station. In fact if you spot McDonald's, the restaurant is just down the lane. This is my third visit here and it seems like this place gotten very very and I mean VERY popular among tourists and I can totally understand why. Kaiseki restaurants in Kyoto are extremely expensive and more often than not you have to pay an exorbitant amount of money for dinner at one of these restaurants.
However, over at Roan Kikunoi Kiyamachi, they may not serve you the most creative or mind blowing food but they feed you A LOT and definitely give you your money's worth. The 2nd cheapest course priced at 16000 Yen is already good enough for me and that's exactly what you're gonna see in the photos below. My most recent visit was in December 2018.

Fugu Porridge, I ate 5 bowls of these since the chef made a big pot of it for me and my parents
I think there was easily 10 bowls worth of porridge in that pot |
|
Yes that's right, you read it correctly, I ate 5 bowls of Fugu porridge. That's how generous they are |

Yuzu Sorbet dessert |
So there you have it. Even at the cheapest course, they are already serving you premium items like snow crab, cod milt and puffer fish. As mentioned in my photo captions, they are especially generous with the ending carbs dish. I can almost guarantee you will not leave this restaurant feeling hungry. If you follow me on instagram you'd know I am a big eater and I was full at the end of this meal. In fact I was already pushing my limits on the 4th bowl of fugu porridge. To me, this is my number one safe choice for a delicious and foreigner friendly kaiseki meal in Kyoto.
