As many of you may have read up or heard, Kyubey is one of the most established sushi restaurants in Tokyo; to my knowledge, they even have a branch in Osaka.
The first time I came here, I was utterly blown away by the amazing quality of sushi served. However, that was one of my first few times dining at such upmarket sushi restaurants, so of course I naturally said this is the best sushi I've ever eaten. 2 years later, this is my 3rd time eating in Kyubey. My taste buds have grown since then; I've eaten at a lot more sushi restaurants, and while this is no longer the best sushi I've ever eaten, I still like Kyubey because it is reliable and I think the pricing is very fair.
In other words, if you want to dine at a great sushi place with fair pricing and a high probability that you will always get a seat, this is the place for you. Let's have a look at the pictures I took during my 3rd visit in Kyubey.
Chu Toro (Medium fatty tuna), Kodai (snapper) , Ika (Squid), Kanpachi (Yellow tail), Katsuo zuke (marinated bonito), Amaebi (sweet shrimp) |
Uni (sea urchin), Nama kuruma ebi (raw shrimp), Tairagai (pen shell clam), Otoro (fatty tuna), Hamaguri (hard shell clam), Meiji maguro (baby tuna) |
Kohada (gizzard shad), Aburi Otoro (seared fatty tuna), grilled shrimp head from the nama kuruma ebi, Anago (conger eel), Maki zushi, Tamago |
I ordered the 13000 yen nigiri sushi course, so that comes with 15 types of fish, maki zushi and tamago. This is a very good deal and I highly recommend Kyubey if this is either your first time trying upmarket sushi or you simply want to dine at a reliable restaurant (because a lot of sushi restaurants are super difficult to reserve). There are also other courses available, both more expensive and cheaper, so you may want to check out the website before you dine at Kyubey.
Do note that Kyubey is becoming quite commercialized. I suspect this is the reason why some locals say that this restaurant is not as good as before. To me, it's still a good place and I'm happy to dine here anytime.
