As some of you may know, Ginza Iwa is a 1 michelin starred restaurant that serves a great lunch deal - 13 pieces of nigiri sushi + sushi rolls that cost around 8640 Yen. This is my second visit here and if you read my previous review about this place, I was pretty excited to come back because I was very very impressed with the quality served and price performance. Back then, it was cheaper, I remember it cost about 5000+ for 13 pieces of sushi which included fatty tuna. This time round though, I'm a little sad to say that I was not impressed and rather disappointed with my experience here.

Judging from the photos, could you tell that the sushi was only so so? Maybe it was a bad day, maybe the chef left, maybe their standard dropped for good, maybe it's because all the customers that day were foreigners, maybe my taste buds improved significantly over the last year or so. All I knew was the sushi just didn't taste good in my mouth. It felt like there was something lacking in flavour and it didn't help that the chef was not very interactive despite my efforts in trying to communicate in Japanese. I suppose for first timers, this would be a great deal and an interesting experience being able to taste Michelin starred sushi at an affordable price. But for me, not that I want to brag, but I've been to enough sushi establishments to know what is good sushi and what is not so good sushi. For this particular meal, I felt the sushi was not up to standard for a 1 Michelin starred restaurant. Who knows? It could've just been a bad day for the restaurant....
