This is a real "hidden gem". The reason why I put the inverted commas is because Teochew Paradise is actually located right in the heart of Orchard Road but in a shopping centre which few people actually visit. Ya know that small glass building next to Tangs? That's right I'm talking about Scotts Square, which is more or less known as the shopping centre which London Fat Duck first opened, but it seems like the crowd has really died down at that place and instead, Techoew Paradise located on the top floor of Scotts Square seems to be gradually building a rather strong following. I've been here for lunch and dinner and I have to say both their dim sum and cooked dishes are pretty darn good. In fact I dare say this is one of the best restaurants for Chinese food in Singapore at the moment. I forgot to save my dim sum pictures in my computer but you can find it somewhere in my instagram. Anyway, for this post, I'll be sharing some of my pictures taken from two dinners that I had here:
Suckling Pig - Probably one of the best in Singapore. I prefer this version where the skin is served along with the meat |
Every vegan's nightmare indeed |
This is the head that was chopped up and fried with salt and pepper |
Braised Soy Sauce Duck |
Braised Pig's large intestines |
Oyster Porridge |
Grouper in Shark's cartilage broth |
Claypot Fish with beancurd and glutton |
Ork Luak (Oyster Omelette) |
Lobster Sang Mee |
Used the Lobster's head and claws to make porridge |
Classic Hong Kong Style Stir fried beef Kway Teow |
Classic Hong Kong Sup Chao Ngau Hor (I have no idea what this is called in English lol) |
So there you have it, these are just some of the dishes that their extensive menu has to offer. Do note that their braised soy sauce duck may not always look like what you see in my photos, there have been times where they overcooked it slightly and obviously wasn't as juicy or succulent.Apart from the duck, they are pretty much consistent with their other dishes. I'm assuming they have chefs from Hong Kong in the kitchen which explains why their simmered dishes like their claypot fish and classic Hong Kong dishes like their stir fried beef kway teow bear close resemblance to the real thing.
